My Artomatic Wall...

... Artomatic is in full swing.  I am already done with my 15 hours of volunteer service.  This was a lot more work than i expected, but nothing so bad that i wouldn't do it again!  I am on the eight floor and would appreciate your visit.

Meet-the-Artist night was a lot of fun... thanks for stopping by and saying hello.  I made some contacts, got some potential gigs and sold some prints.

The show lasts till June 15.  The amount of art (in all its flavors) is astounding.  it is a great date idea for you and your significant other.  To see all eight floors would take about three separate trips.  Click on the title of the post to go to their website.  See the calendar of events - go see some bands and art!

National Cathedral...

... caught the "Lighting to Unite" illumination show projected on the National Cathedral on Mother's Day by Swiss illumination artist Gerry Hofstetter.  He illuminated the south and west sides of the cathedral in celebration of its centennial.  Neat artist and concept.  Google him for his portfolio.

Click the title of the post to see good sharp pictures of the west side.  These on this post are of me playing with pushing and pulling the zoom for effect/affect.

Clarendon Neighborhood Day...

... another parade in Arlington.  Just playing with the colours and some motion.  Saw some of the same people as last year marching in the parade.  Maybe i should think about moving?

... a cookout and an afternoon of game-playing and just being with friends
 (and their photogenic little boy).

"Trapped" Zombie Movie Set

... in yet another adventure, i found myself on the set of an independent low-budget movie set for the Zombie film: Trapped, filmed at the Hagerstown 10 Cinema in Hagerstown, MD.  This was written and directed by Gary Ugarek, the guy behind Deadlands: The Rising (a zombie cult classic)!  I got a bit of an education in film-making and an exercise in contrasty/low light photography in fog with a 300 watt spot.

These people take their Zombie-ness seriously!!!  Some pictures were reserved for exclusive use by the director, but here are some of my favorites.  Click the title to go to the Flickr Set to see more, including the awesome work by the make-up team.

Charlotte's Web at MVCCT

... My favorites from the production of "Charlotte's Web" by the Mount Vernon Community Children's Theater.  49 kids between the ages of 6 and 14.  It was a lot of fun to capture!

Smithsonian Kite Festival 2008

... Annual DC Smithsonian Kite Festival on the National Mall. Guess what idiot photographer did not bring a lens longer than 17-85? Doh... pretty dumb. Was not really feeling it much after that.

Photo Books...

... these are stock pictures of the four most influential photography books i have ever read and owned.

For down to earth no-nonsense instruction I recommend "The Digital Photography Book" Volumes 1 and 2 by Scott Kelby and "Understanding Exposer" by Bryan Peterson.

For just pure photo-zen inspiration i insist you read "The Moment It Clicks" by Joe McNally.

Artomatic 2008

... well, i did it!  I registered to exhibit some photographs at this year's Artomatic show.  If you have never seen a DC Artomatic - please come and support your local artists in all media.

Now... how to chose what to show?

CASA Blue Indoor Soccer game...

... a trip to Harrisburg, PA last weekend let to me catching this game.  This is as good as it gets with the light in the place.  I need faster glass for my birthday i think.   My learning curve in Aperture 2 led to me accidently erasing a majority of the photos (unfortunately)... AND... shooting in RAW just eats through 2GB cards.

St. Patrick's Day Parade

... The 2008 DC St. Patrick's Day Parade down Constitution Avenue.  It did not have that 'home town feel'... street too broad and the cops discouraged people from stepping off the sidewalk.  Beautiful colour though.  I am pretty pleased with the Canon 40D.
